Should I Invest in Improving my Website or a Shopify Store?

You’ve probably heard a lot about the platform that is Shopify, whether you’ve been in the market for a new ecommerce website or not. The truth is your website is your most important marketing tool, so it needs to look good. Those wanting to improve theirs are faced with the choice of investing money in their current set-up or switching to a giant like Shopify.

But which represents the wisest choice? Which route is going to result in the best sales and growth? That’s what we look at here, and we start by looking at the pros and cons of each.

Enhancing Your Current Website

The good thing about your current site is that you’re familiar with it – however, if it’s not working for you, it needs to be updated. But what does updated mean? If it’s just a makeover of the design, that’s one thing, but if you’re wanting to add extra features – it can get expensive.

For example, if you want to add ecommerce or lead capture functionality, that not only takes time but also money to pay for the expertise to get it completed. How much will it cost? Well, that’s a pretty open-ended question, as that will depend largely on the site’s purpose and how much of it needs to be updated.

Of course, you could try to update it yourself, but as anyone who’s ever taken that route will tell you – it’s not easy and can end up costing you much more in lost time than you want. People often go down the DIY route for cost reasons, but it often ends up costing more than they expect because of coding costs.

Going for a Shopify Store Instead

While switching to a new platform might feel kinda daunting, what’s waiting for you at Shopify should give you cause to relax. That’s because it’s a SaaS solution that’s purpose-built to make life easier for eCommerce store operators – hence the reason that millions of businesses now use their services.

From the moment you start playing with Shopify, it’s evident (even to newbies) that creating a store is a painless experience. Its intuitive website-building software makes light work of creating your new Shopify store, with all the hosting already taken care of.

One major difference with Shopify is that there’s zero coding involved, which is why novices can dive right in. It offers easy-to-follow back-end functionality too, guiding you every step of the way. What’s more, the provider offers a CMS as part of the service, making it easy to keep things maintained.

Our Advice Would Be to Switch to Shopify

If you were to experience both types of website upgrade, one after the other, everything we’re talking about here would become very very obvious. On the one hand, updating your current website can be laborious, time-consuming and very costly (as coders don’t come cheap).

On the other, you have a system that makes things easy for users and provides an all-in-one solution that offers the ability to grow your website as your business does. It’s hard to argue against the latter, which is why it’s Shopify for us every time.

Sure, it also costs money to get help with Shopify, but as any Shopify development agency will tell you, the UI and UX you get with the platform are next-level when compared to other options. You can choose whatever you like for your website, but we know what we’ll be doing next time we need to modernize our site.
