The Common Car Problems: A Simple Guide

It may be your worst nightmare. You may not ever really think about it. Whichever way you tend to lean, car problems are something that you cannot escape.

And when a car problem comes up, you want to know how to fix the car and what to do with the car issues you are dealing with.

So what are the most common car problems and what do you need to do about them? Keep reading and we’ll tell you all about them!

Dead Battery

If you have a dead battery, it’s most likely because your battery is old or you’ve driven a lot of miles on it. You should plan to replace your battery every 3 years or every 50,000 miles.

Be sure not to wait to do this, even if you think everything is fine as that may cause other issues down the line.

Flat Tires

Ah, the infamous moment when you get a flat tire. If you’ve been there, you know the pain. If you have never had one, you don’t want one.

Unfortunately, though, flat tires are the cause of about 400 deaths each year.

The most common reason for getting a flat tire is a puncture in one of the tires from something you drove over. However, sometimes simple wear and tear can be the reason for a flat.

Rotating your tires every time you get an oil change (about every 5,000 miles) will keep them in the best shape possible.

Squeaking Brakes

Brake squeaking is something that you do not want to ignore. Since your brakes in the car will wear over time, you need to have them regularly inspected to ensure they are in proper working condition.

If you notice squeaking or grinding, be sure to take the car to a mechanic right away.

Steering Wheel Shaking

If you notice that your wheel shakes at higher speeds, you most likely have a suspension or tire/wheel balance issue. Having your tires balanced by a mechanic can make this issue go away.

If you notice the wheel shaking at lower speeds, you may have a damaged suspension that a mechanic needs to look at immediately.

Overheating

Overheating is not something that happens super often, but it still can happen. This happens when the car gets too hot and the cooling system doesn’t work properly.

To ensure that your car is not at risk for overheating, constantly monitor the coolant and the radiator flushing. Also, keep an eye on the water pump to ensure it is working properly.

Fix the Common Car Problems

These are some of the most common car problems you may run into as a car owner. It can be quite frustrating if this happens, but there is most likely a quick fix that a mechanic can figure out if you take it in.
